Shocking!

Let's just stop for a moment and truly, REALLY ponder about this. How many of us go through life firmly believing we are totally different from our mothers?  There has not been a woman I have met who hasn't grown up thinking they are night while their mothers are day. Personally, I have had so many differences with my mother I truly believe I could write "the" book on the subject.

Those crazy years of not ever seeing eye to eye, of constant arguments, of terrible guilt, of always wishing myself to be far away have passed, however, I am not going to lie and say "I understand my mother now that I'm older" or attempt to proclaim to be "the bigger person who forgives and forget." No, but I will admit (with utter shock) :) that in spite of all that's been said and done, and in more ways than I care to acknowledge...we "could" be very "similar." I do console myself by thinking that the similarity comes from my having inherited her virtues, not her faults :)

And so, having passed the initial "shock" and in an effort to continue down the road of happiness and embrace only what's clean and simple, I hereby confess that I am a "bit" like my mother and admit (shock, again!)  that all those arguments and disagreements were not in vain, but instead a valuable lesson for me to be a better mother.

Finally, as I enjoy so many precious moments with my lovely daughter I realize that while I cannot "forgive and forget" I can honestly say: Thank you, Mom!

Hyacinth Bucket (pronounced "bouquet")

It's been said there is bound to be a "Hyacinth" in every family. We certainly have one in ours! Watching Keeping Up Appearances has been a Saturday night ritual with me for years. I would not miss it for the world! Irritating, an absolute snob and yet, she lures me in everytime. Could it be her uncanny resemblance to my mother? Hum, maybe....

In any case, here I am tonight. Giggling and enjoying every single minute of this great show. British comedies, there is nothing like them!

Inner Freedom

There have been tremors and sounds. They have been quiet but constant. I kept hearing them...

It's taken me a while to realize the obvious: I feel free! After long years of being burdened by duties and unwanted things, I have broken away, "I" have exploded! This explotion has been quiet but it has been so strong, so potent, that my very roots have been left shaken and exposed...

I stumble through this new found freedom sure of my steps most  of the time, and yet, there are days when I feel I need a map and a compass in order to navigate through this wonderful new place within myself.

I am amazed to wake up in the morning and be able to plan my days and be me, I am still taken aback with joy, and I get up and can't wait to start new plans and new projects!

Every morning is Christmas. Full of surprises and songs to share with the beautiful people I love.  Lyrics from a  Beatle's song comes to mind, "She is having fun, something that was always denied for so many years" and yes, I AM having fun!

She Sits and Waits

She sits and waits for something to come,
and while she waits her spirit leaves home...

She sits and waits to get what she lacks,
and while she waits, her thoughts don't come back...

The night is falling,
the sun is leaving,
She sits there waiting
daring, believing...

Cape Cod Magic

My first visit to Cape Cod and am still under it's spell. Stayed at a friend's cozy beach cottage for five wonderful days. We had light rain for two days then sunshine. It was warm enough for us to take off our shoes and walk along the beach enjoying the company of hundreds of seagulls. We walked, went for long rides, ate great food, did a bit of shopping, visited museums, then we'd rush home before nightfall to watch the most incredible sunsets ever! At night we'd light the fire (yes, there was a REAL fireplace) and enjoyed a nice glass of wine. Perfect endings to perfect days!
